—Anu Chahauver, director, Your Therapy
I came to the mental-health profession after a long career in non-profit organizing and community development. Seeking a fresh direction, I returned to school to pursue a Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University, which is when I found my true calling. As a result of this varied career and life experience, I have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by modern day families, and I’m committed to creating a warm, safe and non-judgmental space for healing and growth.
I treat individuals, families and couples with a collaborative, trauma-informed and attachment-based approach, in order to support clients as they work to create meaningful change in their lives, based on their own values and goals. For over 10 years, I’ve been helping children, teens and their parents navigate life-changing physical and mental health challenges at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children and Markham Stouffville Hospital. I also have specialized training and expertise in supporting adults who are struggling with disordered eating. In addition, I was recently certified as a Mental Health Provider for children and adults living with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes.
In my practice, I draw from extensive training in a variety of evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Narrative Therapy and Infant Mental Health. I also value the work of clinicians such as Dr. Gabor Maté, who highlight the important interconnection between our emotional health and physical well-being.
On the personal side, I’m a lifelong resident of Toronto, and raised my three children in the same West End neighbourhood where I grew up. In my free time, I enjoy exploring the ravines of Toronto, cooking for family and friends, reading the latest mystery novel, and keeping my two cats (Stella and Luna) entertained.
Maura McClellan is a registered social worker specializing in individual and family therapy, and DBT, ACT and EFFT informed practices at our clinic.
