Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist
Individual and Family Therapist
Emily Atkinson provides psychotherapy to people across a range of ages and cultures, who are facing a variety of mental-health challenges, including anxiety, depression, life transitions and substance use, as well as those questioning their career path, identity and purpose.
Emily brings a unique perspective to her practice, thanks to 15 years of experience in legal and corporate professional services, in both in New York and Toronto. In addition, her clinical and therapeutic experiences include supporting children and families through illness at Toronto’s world-renowned Hospital for Sick Children, counselling high-risk youth at an open-custody residential program and offering a variety of social-work services with the Big Brothers & Big Sisters organization.
With all her clients, Emily offers a warm, friendly, supportive, non-judgmental, strengths-based and collaborative approach to psychotherapy, customized to each client’s needs and treatment goals. In addition, her corporate experience gives Emily unique insights into navigating the challenges of a busy, high-pressure environment with self-care.
Emily spent 10 years in the Canadian Forces’ Naval Reserves, and relished every minute of her experiences on both of Canada’s coasts. Today, she’s a runner, outdoor enthusiast and an avid reader, who loves spending time with her family, finding new hiking trails and cheerleading at her kids’ hockey and soccer games.
