Ellie Lathrop

BSW, MSW, RSW
She/Her

Clinical Supervisor, Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist, Individual and Family Therapist

Biography:

A skilled therapist with more than 25 years of experience, Ellie works with young people, families and adults. Her approach is focused on what’s important to you, understanding your unique perspective and helping you reconnect with what you care about. This has earned her a reputation among clients as someone who’s warm, easy to talk to and genuinely caring.

Ellie’s extensive experience providing therapy includes working with the adoption community in Vancouver, supporting teens and families in community mental health in Scarborough and, most recently, almost a decade working at SickKids and Women’s College Hospitals. She has worked with families, and individuals who are living with the impact of chronic illness and medical complexity. Her areas of expertise include supporting people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, somatization, ADHD, perfectionism, grief, loss and relationship distress. She has an additional speciality in providing therapy for people living with Tourette’s Syndrome through CBIT and providing treatment for people experiencing insomnia, as she is trained in CBT-I.

Ellie’s practice is informed by evidence-based modalities such as Emotionally-Focused Therapy, IFS (Internal Family Systems), Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, Self-Compassion and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She especially values the link between our minds, bodies, brains and the relationships in our lives, and how all of these connect to our wellbeing.

When not at work, Ellie enjoys walking in High Park with her dog Friday (aka “Monster”), trying out new recipes, and seeing live music, from Depeche Mode to Hozier. Ellie has learned a great deal from being a busy working mom to two daughters, who are now aged 22 and 26. She is always happy to make you a cup of tea and considers it a privilege to be a therapist.
